BUP File Extension

Have a problem opening a .BUP file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what BUP files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .BUP file type?

Files with the BUP extension represent backup files created automatically by a number of different computer applications. They are used to archive and store information in order to prevent its loss in case of program errors or when the original file can't be read.

Files with the .bup extension are mostly used for creating backup replicas of DVD content. They copy such information as tracks, menus and subtitles from the main VIDEO_TS.IFO file. If the information file becomes corrupted and unavailable for use, the media player will open the corresponding .bup file to navigate and run the DVD content in the required way.

The BUP file extension is defined in the specification for the DVD Video format, so a .bup file has to be included to all DVD-Video discs to provide additional data protection. Files with the .bup extension are not encrypted and may be opened, viewed or converted to other video formats with the help of appropriate software. Such video converters are available for download online.
