XC File Extension

Have a problem opening a .XC file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what XC files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .XC file type?

The .xc extension has its primary association with the XVM Configuration File (XC) file type. XVM stands for 'Extended Visualization Mod' and is an open-source interface modification tool for the World of Tanks (WoT) MMO game. WoT is an extremely popular MMO game that simulates tactical tank warfare, mainly focusing on the WWII time period. WoT features realistic 3D graphics and detailed tank models.

XVM serves to allow custom modifications of the default WoT player's GUI, offering a large number of community-supplied tweaks and enhancements. All XVM configuration is done through the 'xvm.xc' configuration file located in the '\res_mods\xvm\' subdirectory in the game installation folder (MS Windows).

An .xc file is a plaintext file with a special syntax and extensive comments. Contents of the 'xvm.xc' file alter the game's behavior, and there are several ways to edit this file: manually in a text editor, via an online XVM editor or with the use of the dedicated XVM Editor tool.

With reference to RSNetWorx, a ControlNet network configuration and administration tool for MS Windows by Rockwell Automation, the .xc extension is used to identify ControlNet offline configuration files (.xc). Such files are used to configure and administer a network in the offline mode.

In electronic device development and programming, the .xc extension is used to distinguish plaintext source-code files (.xc) in the XC (Extended C) programming language. XC finds its main use in conjunction with XCore devices and the XMOS processor architecture.

In GNU/Linux, the .xc extension can also be found in plaintext developer's linker script files that are used to simplify executable linking with shared libraries. These linker scripts are located in the '/usr/lib/ldscripts' directory.

With X Server, the standard Unix/Linux GUI engine, .xc files are used to define background color, with the filename being a hexadecimal RGB color code.
