CATDRAWING File Extension

Have a problem opening a .CATDRAWING file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what CATDRAWING files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .CATDRAWING file type?

The purpose of the lengthy filename extension .catdrawing (or, rather .CATDrawing) is to denote the CATIA Drawing (.CATDrawing) file type. This file type was introduced by the CATIA commercial Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software by Dassault Systèmes and is commonly associated with this software. CATIA is a premium full-fledged CAD solution, rivaling Autodesk AutoCAD and other established products. CATIA drawings are saved as .CATDrawing files, each such file being a binary container in a format proprietary to Dassault Systèmes. The drawing file contains all data that are necessary to combine individual parts (represented by .CATPart files) into a coherent assembly and work with it in the CATIA environment. CATIA offers plenty of options to re-save and export its .CATDrawing files in different versions or different CAD formats, and even provides a batch file converter. Apart from that, native CATIA drawings (.CATDrawing) can be directly imported in several other CAD systems (e.g., Autodesk Inventor Pro).
