GP5 File Extension

Have a problem opening a .GP5 file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what GP5 files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .GP5 file type?

GP5 files are commonly associated with Guitar Pro, a music making application developed and marketed by the French company Arobas Music. Enriched with a powerful audio engine and a series of helpful tools like tuner and metronome, it allows musicians to create, edit and play tablatures for guitars, basses and similar stringed instruments.

GP5 files are used to store musical scores on Windows, Macintosh and Ubuntu operating platforms. They contain all necessary sound information on the instrumental composition so that you can play it back in the application and check how it actually sounds. It is possible to create your own tablatures in the .gp5 format and distribute them to other musicians.

The GP5 file extension refers to Guitar Pro version 5, while GP3, GP4 and GPX files - to versions 3, 4, and 6 respectively. You can open GP5 files in the corresponding Arobas Music application or you can import your GP5 compositions into third party programs designed to work with tablature files. There are also conversion utilities capable of turning GP5 files into another format.
