Opening MCW files

Have a problem opening a .MCW file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what MCW files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .MCW file type?

The .mcw extension is primarily associated with MPLAB IDE - a free development tool for creating embedded applications for Microchip microcontrollers, developed by Microchip Technology Inc. MCW files contain information about an MPLAB workspace. The MCW format is supported by various operating systems: Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

The MCW file format can also stand for Microsoft Word for Macintosh documents, developed by Microsoft. This software allows to view and edit documents from the Microsoft Office suite on a Mac.

MCW files were used in versions 4, 5 and 5.1 of the Word for Mac application. These files store text and formatting data and are similar to the usual .doc files.

Alternatively, the MCW format is used for settings files of the Monitor Calibration wizard, a program by Hex2Bit for adjusting display settings, such as color or brightness.

Files with the .mcw extension store all information about monitor adjustment profiles. These profiles help customizing display settings and are useful in visual editing and gaming.
