PDD File Extension

Have a problem opening a .PDD file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what PDD files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .PDD file type?

The .pdd filename extension has its primary association with the Adobe Photoshop Elements Image (PDD) file type/format. Adobe Photoshop Elements (PSE), formerly Adobe PhotoDeluxe, is a reduced and simplified version of Adobe Photoshop, a powerful image manipulation software. Adobe PSE is a commercial application.

A .pdd file is an image saved in Adobe PSE (or the deprecated PhotoDeluxe). Such files use a downsized version of the PSD (Adobe Photoshop) file format. PhotoDeluxe used a different version of the same PDD format, but all PDD image files are properly recognized by Adobe PSE, Adobe Photoshop, and other Adobe tools. Besides, there are various utilities to preview, view, and convert such .pdd files into other bitmap formats.

Another occurrence of the .pdd extension is related to the Polar ProTrainer Diary Data (PDD) file type and format. Polar is an established provider of professional sport and fitness solutions, among which Polar ProTrainer is an exercise monitoring and coaching software for Microsoft Windows. ProTrainer uses .pdd files to keep track of daily exercise and rest patterns. PDD diary files are used together with heart-rate monitor (HRM, .hrm) data files and organized into directories by name and year.

In the context of ActiveVOS, an established commercial business process management and automation software by Active Endpoints, the .pdd extension is also used to denote the Process Deployment Descriptor (.pdd) file format and type. The purpose of ActiveVOS is to manipulate BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) processes, and PDD files are used as internal process descriptors, defining interrelationships among the process participants and procedures. PDD files are always part of ActiveVOS process deployment packages.

Additionally, the .pdd extension also has an association with the Database Designer for PostgreSQL Diagram (PDD) file type/format. Database Designer for PostgreSQL is a visual database development application for Microsoft Windows by MicroOLAP that uses .pdd files to save visual database diagrams. PDD diagrams can be opened with Database Designer for PostgreSQL and exported into vector or bitmap images.

Quite specifically, the .pdd extension was also used to denote patient's personal log files based on data received from Medtronic Chronicle implantable hemodynamic monitor (IHM) devices. In a .pdd log file, dynamics of a patient's blood pressure, heart rate, and other vitals was recorded for medical reference and care plant adjustment. PDD log files could be read with the dedicated Medtronic Chronicle software.
