What is the .RM file type?

The RM file extension is associated with the RealMedia container format developed by RealNetworks, Inc. It is used to store audio and/or video data or links to streaming media content on the Internet. The audio and video streams are encoded with RealNetwork's proprietary audio and video codecs.

RM files are often used for watching movies online or listening to Internet radio stations and real time broadcasts. They store data in a compressed form to reduce size of files and make it easier to download and stream media content from the Internet to users' computers. However, output quality of .rm files can be quite low in comparison with newer media formats.

Files with the .rm extension can be opened and played on all popular platforms - Windows, Linux and Mac via various multimedia players supporting the RM format or using additional plug-ins for Internet browsers. You can also convert your .rm files to other common media formats like MP4, WMV or AVI for their proper playback.
