Information About All File Formats
File Type Advisor is an easy-to-use program that provides information about unknown
file formats. It associates itself with unknown file types and replaces the standard
tool of Windows that often fails to provide any description of rare file types. Once you find a file
of an unknown type, File Type Advisor will look up the vast online database and provide necessary
information about the filename extension and associated file format. It will also show a list of
programs that are known to open or convert such files.
Information about popular file types and software to open them is contributed by users of
File Type Advisor.
Additionally the program may help you keep your software up-to-date by showing alerts when
newer versions of the installed software are released. Keeping software up-to-date is important,
as some viruses use known vulnerabilities in older versions of popular software. Furthermore, newer
versions typically include bug fixes and improvements.
You can disable software update notifications, if you prefer update your software manually but would
still like to have easy access to information about unknown file formats. Just click on the "settings"
button in the notification window:
Disable "Use software manager":
