Opening SESX files

Have a problem opening a .SESX file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what SESX files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .SESX file type?

The .sesx extension belongs to the Adobe Audition Session (SESX) file type/format. Adobe Audition (AA) is a powerful commercial sound production studio for MS Windows and Mac OS X by Adobe for professional waveform editing and manipulation.

The SESX format was introduced by Adobe since AA 3.0 as a replacement of the older SES format that was used to save session files with earlier versions of AA (<3.0). Unlike the older SES format, which was binary, SESX files are plaintext and XML-based. SESX is not compatible with SES.

A .sesx file is a snapshot of an Audition editing session that keeps all current settings like volume, gain levels, filters etc. It thus allows to resume work from the same moment it was paused and saved as a session. In a .sesx file, there is a structured hierarchical XML-based representation of the saved AA session. SESX files can be viewed (and—with certain knowledge—edited) with any text editor.

AA registers its own association with the SESX file type by default, so a .sesx file can be opened to restore an AA session with a double-click.
