Opening ATN files

What is the .ATN file type?

The filename extension .atn represents the Adobe Photoshop Action (.atn) file type/format. Adobe Photoshop (PS) is a well-known commercial bitmap image manipulation software (Microsoft Windows/Apple Mac OS X), both powerful and extensible. Many consider PS, in fact, a standard tool for high-end digital photography.

In PS, an action is a sequence of image-editing steps that are recorded and saved into a binary file (.atn), to be re-used on other images, like a script or macro. PS actions are managed, recorded, and applied from the Actions tooltab. Both default and user-recorded actions (.atn) are saved in the "Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS..\Presets" (Windows x64) folder.

PS actions can be exported as text files—mainly, to review and verify the editing steps, as PS does not support the reverse conversion. However, there are tools that can convert .atn files into XML or JavaScript, and vice versa, enabling writing and editing PS actions as scripts. A vast choice of PS action (.atn) files, often packaged as ZIP archives, is available from various sources on the Internet.
