What is the .MOFF file type?
Files that contain the MOFF extension are index video files created by the Picture Motion Browser application which is distributed together with various models of Sony digital cameras and camcorders. The Picture Motion Browser allows users to browse, view and sort captured video or image files.
When you import a video file into the Picture Motion Browser, the application generates a .moff file to record results of the Video Analysis function. MOFF files do not contain any actual video data. Instead, they record auxiliary information required for indexing purposes and enabling users to browse thumbnails from different scenes in a video and quickly find that special moment they are searching for.
MOFF files usually come along with companion MODD files that are used to store metadata in the xml format. The video itself is usually recorded as an .m2ts file. MOFF and MODD files are not mandatory for playing back the video, but if they are missing, you will not be able to use the Video Analysis function in the Picture Motion Browser.
