ODG File Extension

Have a problem opening a .ODG file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what ODG files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .ODG file type?

The .odg extension belongs to the OpenDocument Graphic (ODG) file type and format. ODG is a subset of the broader OpenDocument Format (ODF) international standard (ISO/IEC 26300 since 2006), which defines a series of unified office application file formats to store spreadsheets (ODS), word processor documents (ODT) etc. ODF is an open and well-documented standard governmentally adopted by many countries.

ODG is a document file type, and .odg files are used to store vector graphics documents with support for embedded objects incl. bitmap graphics, other ODF documents etc. An ODG file is often referred to as a vector drawing.

Technically, an .odg file—like all ODF files—is a ZIP archive with a directory tree inside which stores all document's resources along with the master XML file that actually defines the document.

The ODG format is fully supported by, and .odg drawings can be opened, edited and saved (imported/exported) with a number of (mostly, open-source) office productivity suites and vector image editing tools.
