CDA File Extension

Have a problem opening a .CDA file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what CDA files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .CDA file type?

The CDA file extension stands for the audio CD format as represented by Microsoft Windows. These files are automatically created by the operating system when you open an Audio CD on your computer. CDA files have small size and act like shortcuts for the tracks located on the associated disc.

Files with the .cda extension cannot be considered as audio files since they do not contain any music information at all. Instead, they include track times and some indexing information necessary to access the corresponding tracks on the CD.

If you simply copy a .cda file to your PC and try to open it with the help of a media player, you will get an error message. You need to have the actual Audio CD in your CD drive to listen to the tracks indexed in the .cda file.

There are many software applications designed to work with the CDA file format available for download. They will help you extract music tracks from a CD, convert them into another file format or load .cda files as if they indeed contained audio data.
