ODP File Extension

Have a problem opening a .ODP file? We collect information about file formats and can explain what ODP files are. Additionally we recommend software suitable for opening or converting such files.

What is the .ODP file type?

The .odp extension's primary association goes with the OpenDocument Presentation (ODP) file type and format. OpenDocument is a reference to the OpenDocument Format (ODF), which is an open international standard (ISO/IEC 26300 since 2006) that lays out definitions of more than a dozen general-purpose office document formats. ODP is part of ODF.

An .odp file is a document file that contains an OpenDocument presentation, a collection of pages (slides) with both text, graphics and multimedia content that can be controllably displayed in sequence before an audience.

As a standard ODF document, an .odp file is a ZIP archive with a directory structure containing all embedded objects, images etc. The actual document's structure, textual contents, styles, metadata are defined by several .xml files in the archive.

ODP files can be opened, edited, saved and converted into other formats with any of the ODF-compatible office productivity suites (mainly, open-source) that are currently available for all major platforms.

Alternatively, the .odp extension is also associated with the Actuate Analytics Parameters File (ODP) file type/format. Actuate BIRT Analytics is a commercial BIRT (Business Intelligence Reporting Tools) software solution designed by Actuate for its BIRT iServer.

With Actuate BIRT Analytics, .odp files are used to store parameter-value pairs needed to access multidimensional data storage entities referred to as cubes.
